If we eat the right foods, the right amount of vitamins and minerals in the food will strengthen our body system. It can improve digestion, which in itself is a prerequisite for healing the body. With better digestion, the body absorbs the minerals and vitamins it needs, which in turn improves the body. This is ideal for IBS patients.

So the first food remedy for patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome is pineapple.

The way to reduce acidity is to rub some salt on the pineapple before eating or soak the meat in water with a pinch of salt for a while before eating. With canned pineapple, it is usually soaked in syrup which reduces the taste and freshness.

Pineapple is a natural diuretic and cleanser, removing toxins from the body. It is high in vitamin C and also contains a special enzyme, called bromelain, which helps the digestive system and also reduces inflammation caused by arthritis, gout and sore throat. It also helps in the wound healing process after surgery or injury. It is believed that pineapple contains micro nutrients that can protect cancer and micro nutrients also break down blood vessels and benefit the heart. Pineapple juice is a killer of natural intestinal worms too.

Immediately after each meal, eat one slice of pineapple and it will aid digestion - thus reducing stasis, build up gas and stomach discomfort, all common symptoms of IBS. Taking a day or two is good for most IBS patients; just don't eat the whole fruit by yourself every day. If you just try, take one piece and add it later.

Another way to eat pineapple is to juice it by grinding it. If you don't have intolerant milk, then add some yogurt and mix it together in a food processor that produces lassi drinks. This is a traditional Indian drink. Do not add sugar especially if you use canned pineapple. If you like, you can add some water or ice.
