Fasting is becoming more and more popular, both as a weight loss diet and as a long-term healthy lifestyle choice. Many people have questions about how to make a fast diet. Here are five key points to get you started.

1: Choose how long your fast will be

The possibilities here are endless. However, the most effective plan is to use a technique called intermittent fasting. This involves a period of fasting separation and a normal (though healthy) diet. Perhaps the two most common methods are fast 16 hours a day (think overnight to lunch the next day), and 24 hours a day or twice a week. The beauty of both schemes is that they can be tailored to you and your life.

2: Drink more water

This is a simple trick that serves two purposes. First, it will increase your fullness, which is psychologically important when you are not eating. Secondly, this will speed up the effects of fast cleansing, and allow your body to function optimally.

3: Fast fasting with healthy dishes

Again the interest here is twofold. Second, eating a high sugar diet after fasting will drive your insulin high. Spending your meal crashing into a carbohydrate sleep is not the best way to eat! There is one exception here. Whether your first meal coincides with exercise, it is good to release insulin. This helps the body move nutrients into the muscle instead of storing them as fat.

4: Exercise regularly

This should be bold, but exercise and especially weight training should be at the heart of every diet. This gives you the opportunity to eat more while still burning fat, increasing muscle mass and thus increasing your metabolism (meaning you burn more calories doing nothing) and will make the biggest difference in your appearance in the short term.

5: Follow the plan

Again, this should be obvious, but the easiest way to succeed with a diet and exercise regime is to eliminate any choices. Don't think too much. By following a plan, you are depending on a specialist who already has it. Just follow the instructions.
