What is a Raw Food Diet? - From a Raw Nurse!

Do you wonder what raw food is? Before I started eating raw food many years ago, I had never heard of it. It is a vegan and vegetarian diet consisting of raw, unprocessed and lively - living foods. These are plant foods such as fruits and vegetables, herbs, nuts and grains along with dried raw nori or seaweed and sprouts. Living diets are the healthiest diet on the planet. Animals never cook their food and we can't either. However, that is how most of us grow up and are difficult to change from our diet. However many have done it including me.

The health benefits of a large raw food diet. There is a natural weight loss that occurs when one eats raw food. There is a lot of increased energy and less fatigue, better digestion, healthier skin, hair stops falling and gray hair seems delayed. There is a lower risk of heart disease because one can no longer eat animal foods such as meat, eggs, cheese and dairy - foods that contribute to the formation of plaques in the arteries leading to myocardial disease - a medical term for heart attack.

There are no trans fats or saturated fats in this vegan diet. It is high in many good minerals and trace minerals including potassium, and magnesium. It is also low in sodium. You get a lot of folate, fiber and phytonutrients, also known as phytochemicals that help improve the immune system. The issue of digestion seems to melt away while eating live food. Heartburn, acid reflux, bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, excess gas and bloating will be eliminated. Constipation and diarrhea are a thing of the past. Easy and natural removal.

This raw food diet is a great way to lose weight and is a natural detox and cleanser, cleanses your colon and liver, makes their work easier and gives you more energy as your body does not work hard to digest meat and cooked foods that are not. It has no enzymes to digest, as it has been altered during cooking.

While fruits and vegetables contain a lot of water be sure to drink plenty of pure water or water throughout the day.

In fact, some celebrities are raw food lovers including Woody Harrelson, Carol Alt and Alicia Silverstone.
