How to Deal With Arthritis When You Are Old

Although arthritis can come at any age it is most common in our old age. The most common attack on older people when they get older is osteoarthritis. It is a degenerative form of the disease and is caused by wear and tear.

What is osteoarthritis? This is when the synovalent fluid in the capsule of the joint begins to diminish and dry. The cartilage on the joints will be worn until you have bare bones that rub together. This results in damage and bone wear. The joints will become stiff and painful.

To relieve arthritis symptoms and to deal with arthritis, you need to eat good foods. This should include whole grain foods rather than refined foods. You should try to take at least one meal a day of omega 3 in the form of fish or supplements. Omega 3 has been found to help with inflammation. You should also drink plenty of water, 8 glasses a day is the recommended amount. Be sure to reduce snacks and soda. Replace it with fruits, vegetables and water.

Daily exercise is important to ensure your joints are connected. If you can use a treadmill or walk around the block daily it is one of the best forms of exercise. However sometimes this is not possible.

Also, water training in the form of swimming can be very beneficial as water will gain weight in joints and allow for greater mobility. Static bikes can also be good. I've found this to be very successful. Again this takes on the weight of the joints and allows you to develop the muscles in your legs.

Massage is a good pain reliever, especially if you have arthritis in your hand. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, that can come at an age when you can consider using castor oil when you massage the joints. The heat pad can also help. Some people use the heat and cold compressors alternately for 20 minutes each.

It is wise to try to lose weight as it can worsen knee joint pain. Because your knees carry a lot of weight, every extra pound you have will be an extra 5 pounds of strain on your knees.

The common additives that I find useful in improving joint health and relieving some of the symptoms of arthritis are glucosamine and chondroitin combined with vitamin D and MSM. This will help your joints to start creating more synovalent fluid in the joint capsule; it will also help to repair damaged cartilage.

When you use this natural method, you will get relief from the painful symptoms of arthritis and you will be able to move better. Just because you're older doesn't mean that arthritis should stop you from enjoying life.
