A Brief Look At The Causes Of Ovarian Cysts

In the normal cycle, each egg is produced and released by the ovaries. When the follicle is present, the pouch in which the egg is contained, matures, in response to the increase in egg lent hormone (LH) follicles. Empty follicles then turn into a yellow body called the corpus luteum, which produces estrogen and progesterone in large quantities in preparation for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur, the corpus luteum should collapse and disappear. However, sometimes the follicles do not release the eggs and sometimes the corpus luteum does not break down by itself. In both cases, the opening of the follicle or corpus luteum withers, enlarges and gets filled with fluid and in some cases blood. This fluid filled fluid is known as an ovarian cyst.

The cause of the ovarian cyst is largely attributed to hormone imbalance. For example, in a type of functional cyst known as follicle cyst, it occurs when an LH surge does not occur. Another type of functional cyst, called the corpus luteum cyst, occurs when for some reason the pregnancy does not occur and the corpus luteum does not collapse. There are times when pregnancy occurs and the corpus luteum cyst still exists. Fertility drugs, especially clomiphene citrate are said to be factors that can cause ovarian cysts especially in the case of corpus luteum cyst.

Other types of ovarian cysts are dermoid ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary cysts, cystadenomas and brown cysts. Hormone imbalance is also caused by this system, especially estrogen and progesterone imbalances. What causes this hormone imbalance, which is the cause of the ovarian cyst? Poor diet, poor habits and a stressful lifestyle among other things contribute to the cause. A diet containing too much sugar and too much processed foods is bad for the body as it contains complex sugars that are not easy for the body to break down. It causes havoc with hormone balance. Insulin stimulates the androgen receptor on the outside of the ovary and androgen prevents the release of eggs from the ovaries. Even androgens are responsible for some of the symptoms of Political Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) such as acne and hair growth. Poor diet also includes not eating the right kind of food that will provide the body with the vitamins it needs.

Weak behaviors such as wearing high heels can also play a role as they prevent circulation in the lower abdomen. Lack of exercise is one of the causes of ovarian cyst. High levels of stress result in high production of cortisol by the adrenal glands. This is the beginning of the domino effect. When cortisol levels rise, this causes an increase in blood sugar which causes insulin production to increase. Increasing insulin in your system can lead to insulin resistance and androgen production that worsens PCOS symptoms. This is part of the cause of the ovarian cyst.
