Get Rid of Anxiety and Panic Attacks Without Medication

If you have any type of anxiety disorder, whether due to hormonal shifts during the menstrual cycle, social anxiety, or simply because of chemical changes in your brain's serotonin levels, there are natural ways to cure panic attacks.

An anxiety attack is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Anxiety has been considered a mental disorder, but scientists have recently found that its causes are more hormones and chemicals than emotions. At this time, it is impossible to cure panic attacks, although there are drugs in the market that claim to do so. However, medicines like Zoloft and Prozac bring with them some very unpleasant side effects. These drugs can increase suicidal thoughts and tendencies, can cause sexual problems in women and men, and can cause panic attacks to feel isolated from the world, or to be extremely friendly.

As someone with anxiety disorders, I have found other ways to stop panic attacks. I'm trying to cure anxiety now without medication, and I've seen a dramatic increase over the past few years, completely drug-free. So what is a natural way to stop panic attacks from happening?

Go for a run - Sometimes an emergency attack can make you feel as though you need a break. The best solution is to run, or even run. Physical activity helps keep your mind off the panic attack, and it works well as a panic treatment.

Use pressure points - During panic attacks, your chest hardens, and it may be difficult to breathe. You can reduce some of these things by pressing on the base of your sternum, just under the xiphoid process (the same place you give someone's CPR). This is the pressure point for the chest, and putting pressure here will relax your chest and counteract panic attacks.

Do something with your hands - Some people may scratch themselves, or damage their hands during an emergency. Keep your hands up. This will take your mind off your panic disorder, and will help prevent you from harming yourself. Throwing the ball from one hand to the other is a good panic treatment.

Breathe - It's easy to hyperventilate during panic attacks. A good way to stop a panic attack is to invest in a metronome. When you feel an emergency attack coming, turn on the metronome, and start breathing into a certain rhythm that feels right to you. This shot will help control your heart rate and your breathing.

Try something natural - There are many natural supplements that can help with panic attacks. St John's Wort is a popular herb for depression, but it can also help with anxiety disorders, as both problems often result from chemical imbalances in the brain. Other traditional herbs can help reduce the discomfort of emergency attacks as well.

Look deeper - If your panic attacks are not solely caused by chemical imbalances, try to identify the factors in your environment that trigger them. Do certain thoughts make you feel anxious or scared? Smell? People? If you find patterns in your panic attacks, you can find therapies to help you deal with these things without anxiety attacks. If you see someone who recommends a drug, remind them firmly that you want to cure it naturally for panic attacks. Anxiety disorders can be handled well with some training and patience, and I will never return to the boredom of treating myself after learning to manage anxiety without medication.
