Types 1 and 2 Diabetes Awareness

Diabetes mellitus more commonly referred to as Diabetes belongs to a group of related diseases where a person's blood sugar level is higher than normal. This is because the body cannot produce enough insulin, or the insulin produced is not used properly by the body. Glucose is used by the body to provide energy that enables us to perform all our normal body functions. It is made from the heart and comes from the foods we eat, in particular: pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, milk and fruit. Hormone insulin is produced by the pancreas and allows liver cells, muscle tissue and fat to extract glucose from the blood and store it in the liver and muscles. When the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or if it doesn't work that way, glucose stays in the blood instead of being absorbed by the cells. Your blood glucose level then increases, leading to pre-diabetes or diabetes.

TYPE 1 DIABETES (Insulin Dependent Diabetes, or Juvenile Diabetes)

Type 1 diabetes can be obtained at any age, often appearing in children, adolescents, or young adults. The exact cause of the disease is yet to be determined, but it is believed that the virus or the environment poisoned the pancreas or caused the immune system to invade the pancreatic beta cell (autoimmune reaction). Insulin diabetes is an accurate way of describing this type of disease, once beta cells are destroyed, the pancreas's ability to produce insulin is limited or completely eliminated, making the patient completely dependent on insulin administered via artificial means. It is a disease of a lifetime and is non-preventable and incurable. Symptoms may develop rapidly within a few weeks or months.

SYMPTOMS:

• Reduces mental sharpness

• Be very thirsty and / or hungry

• Feeling tired

• Lose weight despite increased appetite

• Dry and itchy skin

• Slow wound healing

• Blurred vision (rapid onset)

• Regularly encounter

• Quick, deep breathing

• Breathe in fruits

There is currently no known cure for this disease. Once suffering, the only form of treatment available is insulin shots, which are most likely to be taken forever. Other recommended options for managing the disease are: to eat healthy and be physically active.

TYPE 2 DIABETES (Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes, Adult Adult Diabetes)

Type 2 diabetes can appear at any age and unlike body type 1 diabetes produces insulin but the quantity produced is less than needed or liver, muscle and fat cells do not process insulin properly (Insulin Resistance). Glucose levels therefore increase in blood flow. It is not absorbed by the cells and no extra energy can be produced (hyperglycemia). For the most part, it is believed that type 2 diabetes is a result of genetics and lifestyle (diet, weight loss and exercise). Symptoms of type 2 diabetes are not easily noticeable if they appear at all; The disease is often only diagnosed when it is advanced.

SYMPTOMS:

• Tingling or loss of feeling on foot

• Persistent hunger and thirst

• Dry and itchy skin

• Cuts / wounds that heal slowly

• Blurred vision (gradual onset)

• Regularly encounter

• Frequent bladder and vaginal infections

• Erectile dysfunction

When diagnosed early it is possible to reverse the effects of hypertension (hyperglycemia) through the use of medications that may increase one's sensitivity to insulin or limit glucose production by the liver. If the disease is in advanced stages, the treatment may include insulin, pills, proper diet (as recommended by your doctor or dietitian), and physical activity. In addition, you must take personal responsibility for managing the disease by: managing your weight, controlling your cholesterol and blood pressure, monitoring and maintaining your blood glucose level within a targeted environment, quitting smoking (if you do so) and paying regular visits to your doctor, dentist, eye specialist and your podiatrist.

People who suffer from hypertension, overweight / obesity, have a poor diet and an inactive lifestyle, are at increased risk for disease. If you are diagnosed with diabetes, it is important that it is not left without treatment as it can cause: heart disease, kidney problems, nerve damage (possible amputation), blindness and erectile imbalance among other serious diseases.
