If you're like me, you've researched articles and books on how to save money on your wedding. Let's face it, it's a difficult time, but that shouldn't be reflected in your marriage. You only get one chance to get married to your true love and while it's great to have access to unlimited budgets, it's just unrealistic. When I was planning my wedding, I spent hours devoting books on how to budget your dream wedding. The problem is that the more I read, the more I feel that these articles are not about real people and real weddings. Some of the advice they call is things like "don't hire a professional photographer, put your camera on the table and have your guests take all the pictures." I thought: Are these people serious? Why on earth would I have the opportunity to photograph my wedding for my guests who may drink too much / forget to turn flash / cut my head in the picture?

Do you know why diet pills are a billion-dollar industry? This is because the diet is bad. When people become restricted to just eating cabbage soup daily, it takes away the joy of living. Humans like diversity and such separation in our lives are painful. Diet makers know this and so they market pills that will allow you to "eat whatever you want and still lose weight." Some work better than others, but they all work on the same basic principle: they suppress your appetite so you eat less ... you can eat high quality foods that are amazing, you just eat a little less and so you lose weight. The idea behind it is "don't go too far, just lean." It's called shaving all over the board.

You can get your first choice in every category of wedding no matter what economy we find easy by applying the same principles.

The reason why wedding budget articles don't work is because they tell us to separate most of our marriages instead of shaving the entire board. The method I will describe will teach you by example. You can actually apply it to any of the categories but I'll give you examples of the top 6 most searched categories so you can get a general idea. This is the method I use and have been shared with my bridal clients - moreover, I see it working with every bride, every wedding dream, every budget, 100% of the time.

CATEGORY: VENUE

Bad advice: Choose a public place such as a park or public beach. Public places are just ... public. There is zero control over the environment including strangers, loud cell phones, screaming kids, and strangely bizarre marriages.

CONNECTING THE BOARD: You can have the right place and room at a fraction of the usual price by choosing the previous day. Everyone rushes for Saturday - if you ask where you are for Friday or Sunday you will be surprised & excited by how much cheaper it is. No matter what day you choose, find out about renting a room for less - do you really need it for 12 hours?

CATEGORY: PHOTOGRAPHY / VIDEO

MORE ADVICE: Don't take a professional photographer and ask your guests to be responsible for your photos and / or videos. In addition to all of the above, you want your guests to relax. Not to mention you only have 1 chance to catch these things.

SAVE THE BOOK: Don't finish it - this is the picture you'll see for the rest of your life. You can book the photographer you like and stay on track by simply ordering the next package. What do you prefer: a giant photo package from a very special photographer or an amazing little package taken by your dream photographer?

CATEGORY: MUSIC

MORE ADVICE: Ask a friend to be your DJ instead of hiring a professional - or an ipod marriage. Indeed your choice of entertainment will affect every aspect of your wedding. Your friends don't know how to read your crowd and the ipod is any "mix tape". People will only remember whether they had a good time or not. Think: have you ever been to a bad party that made it worse? You don't want your guests to walk around feeling that your wedding.

CONNECTING THE BOARD: You can book a DJ you like by booking less. Some people think they need to book a DJ as long as they have a room - this is not true. Learning from old vaudeville says: Always let them want more. Not only does this open up other areas of your budget, but it ends your marriage in a big bang that makes everyone drown.

OTHERS DO THE BOOKS

CAKE: Order your dream cake for half the people (or just the top) to cut the cake and get the rest as a sheet cake. No one was looking into the kitchen and the staff had to cut it.

FLOWER: Order the beautiful arrangement you want but for every other table instead of every table. Other desks you can leave on your own or put in a collage of pictures, candles, or even a cheaper arrangement will work out.

LIMO: Book 2 different limo companies so you don't have to pay for time you don't use. Limo companies book a minimum of 2 hours and they do not offer a break within your timeframe so you are stuck paying for 6 hours that the driver should sit around and wait for you. The way around this is to book 1 company for pre-ceremony pick-ups and drive to the reception if they are in a different location, and a different company to pick you up at the end of the reception.
