Type 2 Diabetes - Should You Use a Ketogenic Diet Plan?

As someone who works hard to control or prevent Type 2 diabetes, one diet you may hear is a ketogenic or keto diet plan. This diet is a very low carb diet plan consisting of ...

  • 5% of carbohydrates,
  • 30% protein, and a
  • diet fat loss 65%.

If there is one thing this diet will do, it helps control your blood sugar levels. This being said, there is more to eating better than just controlling your blood sugar.

Let's list some of the main reasons why this diet isn't always as big as it sounds ...

1. You will lose Fiber Diet. The first big problem with a ketogenic diet is that you will be unhealthy in your diet. Almost all vegetables are cut from this plan (other than very low carbohydrates), and fruits are definitely not allowed. High fiber grains are also out of the equation, so this gives you the protein and fat content - two foods that contain no fiber at all.

Go on this diet and you will find that you start feeling supported in no time.

2. You Will Be Low Energy. Another big problem with a ketogenic diet is that you will be low on energy to run your exercise program. Your body can only use glucose as a fuel for intense exercise and if you do not take carbohydrates, you will not have glucose.

Therefore, the ketogenic diet is not for anyone who wants to live an active lifestyle with regular exercise sessions.

3. You Can Bring Brain Fog. People who are on a ketogenic diet may find they have brain fog. Again, this is because your brain mainly exceeds glucose.

Some people may find that after a week or two their diet starts to feel better because their brains can turn to ketone bodies as a source of fuel, but others will not find that they start to feel better.

All in all, this diet simply doesn't work for some people for this reason.

4. Your Antioxidant Status Will Be Declined. Finally, the last issue with the ketogenic diet is due to the lack of fruit and vegetable content - your antioxidant status will drop dramatically.

Antioxidants are important in preventing free radical damage, so this is not a simple matter. If you don't take it, you may get sick in the future.

So keep these things in mind because diet comes with some risks. Ketogenic diets convert non-sugar fat into energy. It was originally created as a treatment for epilepsy but now dietary effects are being considered to help Type 2 diabetes patients reduce their blood sugar. Make sure you discuss your diet with your doctor before making any dietary changes.
