Ayurvedic Treatment Options for Cervical Cancer

Over the past ten years, Ayurvedic medicine has grown in popularity in North America, in part due to the work of Deepak Chopra, MD, an Indian physician, author, and speaker who has enhanced both capabilities, and influenced his use of modern day medicine to help cure cancer. However, most people have never heard of Ayurvedic medicine, let alone actually use it.

What is Ayurvedic medicine?

Originating from India, Ayurvedic medicine (Ayurveda) has been around for over 5,000 years. It emphasizes the reestablishment of body balance through diet, lifestyle, exercise, and body cleaning; along with mental health, body and spirit - and similar to Chinese medicine, it is the "whole medical system." What it means - it is based on both theories and methods of preventing and treating health and disease.

How is Ayurvedic medicine prescribed?

In Ayurvedic medicine; It is believed that the tongue may give some indication to parts of the body that may be unbalanced (as well as the skin, lips, nails, and eyes). This will allow a practitioner to determine the balance of one's doshas (individual differences (vata = space and air, kapha = water and earth, and pitta = fire and water)) or metabolic type.

Also, the patient's judgment (constitution and individual importance) is determined to allow for the focus on restoring an imbalance of dosha (unbalanced dosha is believed to interfere with the recovery of the prana (vital energy) of the body caused by digestive disorders resulting from the formation of residues). A method that has been successfully used to cure illness for a long time.

How is Ayurvedic medicine used to cure cancer?

Today, Ayurvedic medicine is used to help treat cancer (especially cervical cancer), where it aims to not only treat cancer, but also treat symptoms; along with preventing its spread, and reducing the side effects commonly seen with modern medicine.

Different Ayurvedic medicines will treat many different ailments. For example: Arogya-Vardhini, Kanchnar-Guggulu, Mahamanjishthadi-Qadha, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, and Triphala-Guggulu, etc., are used to treat local tumors; while a type of detergent containing Triphala (3 pieces) and Yashtimadkuk (Glycerrhina glabra) is used to treat local ulceration.

Other medicines that act on the taste, rakta, and adipose tissue (three) of the seven tissues that make up the organs and systems of the body) include: Kutk (Picrorrhiza kurroa) and Indrayav (Holharrhina indica) to help prevent metastasis (spread) cancer to other parts of the body.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Bala (Sida cordifolia), Nagala (Sida humilis), and Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), etc., are used to help boost the body's immunity; while Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Kamadudha-Ras, Shankh-Vati, Laghu-Sutshekhar-Ras, and Vishwa (Zinziber officinale) are used to help prevent or reduce the side effects of modern medicine.

What is the success of Ayurvedic medicine in cervical cancer?

The immediate purpose of Ayurvedic medicine is to treat primary cervical tumors, and to prevent any metastasis (as well as to treat existing metastasis (if any)). Patients are given medications (some with specific actions on the uterus and cervix) in high doses to invade the tumor and act on rubber and blood tissues that help prevent metastasis.

High doses, aggressive and prolonged treatment (6 - 9 months) seem to attract many cervical cancer patients to a state of remission (successful course of treatment (does not mean cancer patients are no longer at risk for recurrence of disease, or cured) where quality of life better survival and better survival rates have been documented.

However, there may be many doubts as to whether Ayurvedic medicine can actually cure cervical cancer completely; although there are positive signs that it has a certain ability to heal. However, there is still insufficient evidence to either confirm or deny the ability of Ayurvedic medicine to be an appropriate competitor in the fight against cervical cancer.
