Most Effective Herbal Medicines For Hypothyroidism

Perhaps, you are sick and tired of the countless herbal remedies for hypothyroidism currently on the market. You might save a lot from not going for the mainstream medicines, but still paying for the worthless herbs. A closer look at the causes of hypothyroidism may give you a good indication of what herbal medicine should look like.

A known cause

According to a study conducted by Jack DeRuiter published last year, 3% of the general population worldwide suffer from hypothyroidism. In addition to iodine deficiency, other factors are identified as the main cause of this disease. Many clinical studies suggest a strong link between this disease and its exposure to iodine-131, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and some congenital diseases, such as the absence of the thyroid gland. Deficiencies in the production of hormones secreted by the hypothalamus and pituitary glands also cause hypothyroidism. Among mothers, 5% of them experience this condition within one year after giving birth.

Symptoms

Typically, previous symptoms include poor muscle tone, fatigue, reduced ability to withstand colds, various levels of depression, irritability and paralysis of the skin. As the disease progresses, people with hypothyroidism also show slower and louder speech, dry skin, especially on their arms and legs, and irregular menstrual cycles in women.

Oyster shells

Fortunately, there are some herbal remedies that have been proven to be most effective in treating the disease. Now, knowing the underlying causes of hypothyroidism, we must be able to identify the natural plants and other substances that can handle this problem well. In Chinese medicine, oyster shells have been considered a very powerful treatment. Oyster is a bivalve mollusk that lives mostly in marine and brackish waters. A strong shell is a calcification valve known as a rich source of calcium and iodine. Medicines prepared from oyster shells are taken in the form of pills and capsules that contain very fine oyster minerals.

Useful study by Dr. Kar

Another 2002 study conducted by Dr. A. Kar and his colleagues and published in the Alternative and Complementary Therapy Focus investigated the use of water hispop, also known as Bacopa monnieri, and its effect on thyroid hormone regulation in male laboratory mice. Pilot studies show that leaf extract has the ability to stimulate thyroid production naturally by about 41%. Hyssop water is a creeping shrub from what is usually found in wetlands and similar environments. In separate studies, leaf extract also increased memory capacity and motor learning ability among subjects. This plant is also rich in anti-oxidants.

Another plant that holds promise to cure hypothyroidism effectively is Bael, also known as Aegle marmelos. Many areas also call it Bilva, Buy fruit, stone apple or wood apple, among others. It is commonly found in many South and Southeast Asian countries, especially in South India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Philippines. The same study was done by Dr. Kar has shown that Bael extract can provide 61% efficiency in increasing thyroid production in the body. In some parts of central and southern India, fresh fruit is squeezed to produce lemonade and sharbat, a refreshing drink consisting of dried pulp mixed with lime. Other sources are St. wort. John, alligator tongue and black cohosh.

Some important warnings. Because most of these herbal medicines are taken orally, it is very important to also consult with a physician regarding allergic reactions and other side effects. And no matter how powerful the drug may be, it should always be combined with a healthy lifestyle and a diet-rich diet that is rich in iodine. Only optimum benefit of this herbal remedy for hypothyroidism.
