The Ketogenic Diet

For most people, a ketogenic diet is a great option for weight loss. It's very different and lets people eat foods that are made up of foods that you would not expect.

So the ketogenic diet, or keto, is a diet consisting of very low carbohydrates and high fat. How many diets are there where you can start your day with bacon and eggs, plenty, then follow with chicken wings for lunch and then steak and broccoli for dinner. That may be too good to be true for many people. Well on this diet this is a great day to eat and you follow the rules perfectly with the meal plan.

When you eat a very low amount of carbohydrates your body will be put into ketosis. What this means is that your body burns fat for energy. How much carbohydrate do you need to eat in ketosis? Well, it varies from person to person, but it's a safe bet to stay under 25 carbs clean. Many suggest that when you are in the "induction phase" that when you actually put your body into ketosis, you should be under 10 clean carbohydrates.

So if you were on a diet of 35 grams of pure carbohydrates and 13 grams of dietary fiber, your net carbohydrate for that day would be 22. Easy enough, right?

So what else is good about losing keto? Many people talk about their mental clarity better at a diet. Another benefit is increased energy. Another is the decreased appetite.

One thing to worry about when running a ketogenic diet is something called "keto flu." Not everyone experiences this, but for those who do it can be difficult. You will feel tired and you may have a headache. It won't last long. When you feel this way make sure you get plenty of water and relax to get it.
