Are coronary arteries affected by obesity?
Fadia Mohsen was sent to say: "I am obese, does this have anything to do with coronary artery insufficiency, and sometimes the pain I feel?"
Dr. Jamal Shaaban, consultant cardiologist, replies: "Concentrated obesity in some areas such as the waist line is associated with cardiovascular disease."
It may be a precursor to type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and atherosclerosis, especially the coronary arteries, and therefore can develop an gina or coronary artery thrombosis.
It can be prevented by walking at least 5 hours a week, following a healthy diet by reducing carbohydrates, sugars and saturated fats, and paying heavily for vegetables, fruits and fish.
